The Yoruba Council Worldwide has described as sacrilegious former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s ordering of traditional rulers in Oyo State to stand and greet Governor Seyi Makinde at a project inauguration in Iseyin on Friday.
Vanguard reported that the former president, in a short video expressed displeasure to the monarchs for not rising to greet Governor Makinde, describing the action of the royal fathers as disrespectful to the office of the governor.
Describing the development as depressing, disparaging and disrespectful to the Yoruba people, the Yoruba Council Worldwide, through its president demanded an apology from or face untold traditional and legal consequences.
Meanwhile, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Saturday, through a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Alli Ibrahim, insisted that Yoruba monarchs could not be treated as uniform men who would be ordered around and blamed the royal fathers who responded to Obasanjo’s order.
