The Kwara State Fire Service on Thursday successfully battled a potentially catastrophic fire at the Fortunate Integrated Nigeria Limited filling station in Ilorin, around 7:44pm.
According to a statement from the Kwara Fire Service Media and Publicity Head, Hakeem Adekunle, the fire involved a forty-five thousand liter petrol tanker, attempting to transfer PMS (popularly called petrol) into the station’s reservoir.
The statement said that the fire crew arrived to contain the blaze within ten minutes, preventing further damage to the filling station and nearby structures. The fire, sparked by spilled petrol on the overheated parts of the tanker during the transfer process, was promptly extinguished.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Government of Kwara State, Hon. AbdulRazaq Jiddah, commended the firefighters for their heroic efforts at the scene while the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, emphasized the importance of public safety during this period, urging residents to promptly call the fire brigade in case of emergencies.
