The State House has earmarked N9.5 billion for the purchase of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, Sport Utility Vehicles, operational vehicles, plain cars and the construction of an office complex for Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.
Out of the sum, RoyalTimes gathered that N2 billion was earmarked for the replacement of SUV vehicles, N4 billion for the purchase of State House operational vehicles, N359 million for the purchase of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, plain cars, jeeps, ambulances and N3.5 billion for the construction of office complex for Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.
In response to these reports, public analyst Mallam Abdulrofiu Olarenwaju, while speaking to RoyalTimes, launched a scathing criticism, denouncing the decision as an act of reckless spending.
Expressing deep concern over what he deemed as the country’s continuous struggle with fiscal mismanagement, Mallam Abdulrofiu asserted, “Nigeria has money, it is only reckless spending that is making it seem otherwise. It is a pity that money is being spent on vehicles every year. How do we progress? This government is too expensive.”
He did not limit his criticism to just the federal government, extending his reproach to encompass the state government as well. He accused Nigerian leaders of failing to uphold their promises made during campaigns, asserting that a significant portion of those in power were primarily focused on personal gains rather than serving the populace.
“The leaders in Nigeria are not truthful to the promises they made during their campaigns. Majority of the people in government are just after their gain,” Abdulrofiu expressed, highlighting the pervasive issue of corruption in the country’s political landscape.
Drawing attention to the urgent need for financial prudence, Abdulrofiu urged the government to curtail unnecessary expenses, emphasizing that this fiscal discipline was essential to plug the wide-reaching loopholes contributing to the country’s economic challenges.
