The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced the closure of Landmark Beach, Lagos, effective from Sunday, as the Federal Government begins demolition activities in preparation for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
Umahi made this declaration during a press briefing held at Landmark Beach on Saturday, where he emphasized that only shanties would be affected by the demolition, ensuring that no essential infrastructure is disrupted.
“We are not doing this because of any particular reason, we are considering the most economical and bible way to pass this coastal road without much damage and we are also considering the economic value of the coastal road if we stay within the coast,” he said.
Addressing compensation concerns, Umahi assured that payments would commence by Wednesday or Thursday, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations.
He underscored President Bola Tinubu’s directive to prioritize compensation for affected individuals and emphasized the government’s dedication to the project’s successful execution.
