Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago has banned the sale and distribution of food items and farm produce in bulk from the state to other Nigerian states.
Bago announced the ban during a news briefing, stressing that the sale of food items in bulk has resulted in scarcity and food starvation within the state.
In his words, “Trucks who come to pack or buy foodstuffs from our villagers in bulk should be halted for now. We have stopped mass purchases from our local markets, and all our local governments, from now henceforth.”
The Governor noted that security agencies have been instructed to confiscate erring trucks found doing that and share the food with the people.
