Bayer Leverkusen Managing Director, Simon Rofles has revealed that the duo of Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella will be allowed to represent Nigeria if called up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
It would be recalled that the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Fernando Carro had complained about the timing of the competition, claiming the club will take legal action.
Aside from Boniface and Tella, the league leaders will also be without Cote d’Ivoire’s Odilon Kossounou, Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba and Morocco’s Amine Adli during the competition.
Rofles said they will not stop the players from attending the tournament.
“If they are called up, they will go,” Rolfes said to Kicker about the five Bayer Leverkusen players in line to represent their respective countries at the AFCON.
The 2023 AFCON will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire.
