A lecturer at the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin, Mr. Adegbite has expressed his support for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) demand for transparency regarding the auction of Kwara Hotel and the substantial renovation costing over N17bn. Mr. Adegbite commended the opposition party for raising concerns, emphasizing the crucial role they play in ensuring checks and balances within the state or nation.
The PDP had earlier urged the Governor to provide a comprehensive breakdown of the amount generated from the auctioning of Kwara Hotel properties. The party expressed concern over the lack of public information on the income generated, the whereabouts of the funds, and other technical details associated with the auctioning process.
Speaking to RoyalTimes, Mr. Adegbite acknowledged that it is the responsibility of the opposition to question and scrutinize the actions of the government, fostering accountability and transparency. He stated, “PDP said the right thing because, often times, the opposition party is meant to do checks and balances in the state/nation.”
Kwara Hotel holds significant historical and cultural value as one of the legacies of Kwara state, and Mr. Adegbite took a moment to applaud the governor for the continuous efforts towards its improvement. However, he stressed the importance of addressing the concerns raised by the PDP, asserting that transparency is key when dealing with public assets and finances.
“Kwara Hotel is a legacy of our state, and it’s commendable that the governor is committed to its constant improvement. However, it is equally important to address the issues raised by the PDP to ensure transparency in the auction process and the substantial renovation expenses,” Mr. Adegbite remarked.
The educationist urged the governor to consider the PDP’s demands seriously, reiterating that open communication and transparency are essential elements in maintaining public trust. As the dialogue unfolds, the public eagerly awaits the governor’s response and actions regarding the concerns raised by the opposition party.
