Rivers United secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory against Tunisia’s Club Africain in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
The hero of the match was Nyima Nwagua, who found the net five minutes before halftime, securing all three points for Stanley Eguma’s side.
This victory makes Rivers United the third Nigerian club, following BCC Lions in 1990 and Enyimba in 2008, to defeat Club Africain in continental competitions.
The win propels Rivers United to second place in Group C, with six points from three games.
Club Africain, despite the defeat, maintains the top spot in the group, also with six points from the same number of matches.
The closely contested encounter sets the stage for an exciting rematch between the two teams on Wednesday, December 20, for matchday four.
