Former referee Luca Marelli has voiced his support for Maurizio Mariani’s decision to award a penalty to Victor Osimhen during Sunday’s clash against Juventus.
Mariani, the center referee, granted the penalty to the Super Eagles’ striker after a VAR review confirmed a tackle within Juve’s penalty area.
Marelli emphasized that despite minimal contact, Joseph Nonge’s challenge on Osimhen’s ankle was evident.
Mariani further asserted the correctness of reviewing the incident, affirming the penalty decision and caution for the Juventus player.
Despite Osimhen’s penalty being saved, Napoli secured a 2-1 victory over Juventus, with Giacomo Raspadori netting the rebound in the 88th minute.
