KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare faced racist abuse from sections of the club’s fans following their defeat to Club Brugge.
Genk officially confirmed this incident via their website, condemning the racist reactions directed at Arokodare on social media.
After the team’s 3-0 loss to Club Brugge, Arokodare, who missed a penalty during the match, became the target of racial insults online.
The club has denounced the racism, emphasizing its zero-tolerance stance and commitment to rooting out such behaviour.
“After the match against Club Brugge, Tolu received a series of racist reactions on social media,” the club stated.
“KRC Genk and everyone involved with the club condemn the reactions 100%.
“Racism has no place. Not in football stadiums, not on social media, nowhere. Unfortunately, racism is still deeply rooted in football and by extension in society as a whole.
“It is a shared responsibility to put a stop to this. As a club, we do everything we can to track down those responsible and report them to the police.“
Meanwhile, Arokodare this season has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 27 league games for the club.
