The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has cautioned the Nigerian government and the Economic Community of West African States ( ECOWAS) against the use of military force against the coup plotters in Niger Republic.
The forum, in a statement issued by its General Secretary, Murtala Aliyu , condemned the July 26th coup in Niger led by Brigadier General Abdoulrahame Tchiani and urged the African Union and ECOWAS to dialogue with the coupists as one of the civil measures to restore democratic governance in that country.
Meanwhile, the former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar warned the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) not to travel the road of military hostilities to resolve the leadership crisis in Niger Republic.
Atiku, in a tweet on Thursday evening, faulted the plan, saying using military hostilities may exacerbate the status quo. According to him, the crisis requires diplomatic engagements which must mean that the channels for dialogue should be well sustained.
