The daughter of Chief MKO Abiola, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, says Nigerians have not betrayed her father and that the spirit of June twelfth should be expected in the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
She said this at the Eagle Square venue of the first National Democracy Day celebration in Abuja today. According to her, today is the fulfillment of her father’s vision as he trusted Nigerians people that they would always defend him.
Also speaking at the event, Abiola’s son Abdulmumuni, however bemoaned the lack of progress in the country since 1993. He lamented that the education and health sectors have collapsed.
Abdulmumuni said June 12 should be a day of national sober reflection for Nigerians as the “people are getting poorer and the poverty rate is increasing”.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare Abiola, as a former president.
The National Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr Adeyemi Azeez, made the call in a statement obtained by the news men in Abuja today. He also tasked President Buhari to pay the rights in cash, asset and honor to Abiola family claiming that it would no doubt go a long way in bringing joy and satisfaction to the bereaved family.
