In a bid to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal, the Federal Government on Thursday said a new minimum wage regime would come into effect on 1st of April 12024.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, said the current thirty thousand naira minimum wage would expire at the end of March 2024.
Mohammed said this on Thursday as an analysis of the 2024 –2026 Fiscal Framework budgets as the Federal Government would spend over twenty four trillion naira on salaries in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
However, Labour unions on Thursday confirmed that they had started a negotiation process with the Federal Government, adding that based on the country’s labour law, the minimum wage should be reviewed every five years.
