The Super Falcons of Nigeria demonstrated their prowess on Thursday by securing a convincing 5-0 victory over Cape Verde in the first leg of the final round of qualifiers for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The game, held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, showcased an outstanding performance from Uchenna Kanu, Gift Monday, and Esther Okoronkwo.
The Super Falcons wasted no time in taking the lead, with Uchenna Kanu netting the first goal in the seventh minute. Gift Monday then capitalized on a goalmouth scramble in the 25th minute, doubling Nigeria’s lead and asserting their dominance.
Uchenna Kanu secured a brace just before halftime, while Okoronkwo connected to a cross from Esther Ogbonna to increase Nigeria’s lead.
Esther Okoronkwo continued her impressive performance, completing her brace in the 77th minute and sealing a resounding 5-0 win for the nine-time African champions.
