Amidst rising concerns over economic hardship, a nationwide protest initiated by the human rights group, Take It Back Movement, has kicked off in Lagos and spread to other states, including Osun and Edo.The protest, which commenced in Lagos, is a precursor to the organized labor’s planned demonstrations set to begin on Tuesday.
Despite warnings issued by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, cautioning against violent actions or obstruction of public activities, protesters took to the streets carrying placards to voice their grievances.
In Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, demonstrators gathered at Nelson Mandela Park, decrying the adverse effects of inflation and the escalating cost of living. They urged the federal government to intervene swiftly to mitigate the worsening situation.
Similarly, in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, protesters marched from Kings Square to Akpakpava Road, brandishing placards demanding an end to economic hardship and hunger in Nigeria. Their slogans included “End Economic Hardship,” “FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now,” and “We Are Tired of Hardship,” among others.
