The All Progressive Congress and the Social Democratic party in Kogi State have traded blames after unknown gunmen attacked the residence of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Longpet in the early hours of Friday.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the APC campaign council through its Media and Publicity Director, Kingsley Fanwo pointed accusing fingers at the defeated governorship candidate of the Social Democratic party and called for his arrest and prosecution, adding that SDP supporters have shown enough evidence of violence.
Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party in a statement released on Friday by its Media Director, David Ijele denied any involvement in the attack on the REC’s residence and said that election should not be treated as a war, nor should it be a matter of life and death.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha has ordered a thorough investigation into the attack as revealed in a press release signed by Public Relations officer of the Command, SP William Aya on Friday.
According to the statement, the Police guards on duty at the residence engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and denied them access to the premises, adding that the Sienna Bus the hoodlums came with was seen burnt to ashes at the front of the residence.
He added that the State’s Commissioner of Police deployed a reinforcement Team of Tactical Operatives to the scene while trailing the hoodlums and charged the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to commence investigation immediately.
