A devastating fire outbreak wreaked havoc on Sunday evening at Grace International School in Tanke, Ilorin, Kwara State, reducing property worth millions of naira to ashes.
The incident, which occurred around 6:06 pm, left nine out of the 14 classrooms of the school completely destroyed, leaving them in ruins.
Situated on Awolowo Street beside Kobiowu Mosque in Tanke, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Grace International School serves as a prominent educational institution within the community.
Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, issued a statement in Ilorin on Monday detailing the tragic event. According to Adekunle, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were confronted with a block of classrooms engulfed in flames.
Despite the valiant efforts of the firefighters to combat the blaze, tragically, the fire had already ravaged nine out of the fourteen classrooms, causing extensive damage to a significant portion of the school.
Adekunle further revealed that through meticulous investigation, it was determined that the fire originated from an undergrowth deliberately set ablaze by an unidentified individual.
The flames swiftly engulfed the school building, resulting in the catastrophic destruction witnessed.
The aftermath of the fire leaves the school community reeling from the loss and destruction of valuable educational infrastructure. As authorities work to assess the extent of the damage and investigate the cause of the fire, efforts to rebuild and restore the school to its former state are anticipated.
