The European Union (EU), on Monday, announced the adoption of a new set of sanctions against Russia, marking the 12th package of measures since the initiation of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces on February 24, 2022.
The latest sanctions aim to curtail Russia’s access to revenues, metals, and technology vital for sustaining its military efforts.
The newly adopted measures include an import ban on Russian diamonds, both natural and synthetic, along with those incorporated into jewelry.
The ban will be effective from January, covering all diamonds, and from September next year specifically for Russian diamonds cut in other countries.
European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the EU’s steadfast support for Ukraine.
