President Joe Biden criticized Israel’s military response in Gaza as “over the top” and called for a sustained pause in the fighting.
In a press briefing at the White House, Biden’s strongest criticisms of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government came after Netanyahu rejected a Hamas proposal, leading to increased domestic pressure on Israel to halt attacks.
Biden emphasized his efforts to normalize Saudi Arabia-Israel relations, provide more humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians, and secure a temporary ceasefire for the release of hostages held by Hamas.
Meanwhile, concerns rise over a potential Israeli assault on Rafah, prompting White House spokesperson John Kirby to warn against such an operation without due consideration for civilian lives, labeling it a “disaster” that the U.S. would not support.
