The UK government has confirmed an additional one hundred million euros million in funding for the relocation of asylum seekers to Rwanda, a move aimed at deterring illegal Channel crossings.
This funding follows a previous payment of one hundred and forty million euros earlier this year, with an anticipated fifty million euros to be allocated in the coming year, according to Sir Matthew Rycroft, the Home Office’s top civil servant.
Sir Matthew Rycroft clarified that the additional payments are unrelated to a new treaty signed this week between the UK and Rwanda.
Legal migration minister Tom Pursglove emphasized that the funds are crucial to ensuring the robustness of the Rwanda policy, aiming to reduce the government’s daily expenditure on housing migrants in UK hotels, currently estimated at eight million euros.
