The Nigerian government has issued stern warnings of potential sanctions against foreign airlines that refuse to comply with directives to release low inventory tickets within a specified timeframe.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, Michael Achimugu, warned that defaulting airlines risked facing sanctions.
According to Achimugu, the NCAA has set up a committee chaired by the Director of Special Duties to oversee full compliance by foreign airlines with the government’s directive.
“Some airlines did a partial opening, meaning that they didn’t release all of the low-inventory tickets. For example, if they have 10 economy class tickets with different fares, they will release around five,” the source revealed.
Meanwhile, the President of the Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria, Kingsley Nwokoma, acknowledged that while some airlines had complied, others were yet to follow suit.
