Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized the critical role of dialogue in resolving conflicts across Africa, urging the continent’s youth to embrace peace-building efforts to avoid the destruction of lives and property.
Speaking at a youth leadership symposium titled “Opportunities for Peace: Roles of the Youths in Conflict Prevention in Africa,” held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Obasanjo stressed the importance of fostering a culture of peace and security among African youth.
During the symposium, organized by the Centre for Human Security and Dialogue in collaboration with the Institute for African Culture and International Understanding, Obasanjo underscored the need for African youth to reject narratives of hatred and violence.
He urged them to promote love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as essential elements for economic growth and prosperity.
Addressing the attendees, Obasanjo highlighted the pivotal role of African youth in shaping the continent’s future, emphasizing that they are leaders of today, not just tomorrow. He called on them to resist being manipulated into conflicts and instead become agents of peace.
