The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has excluded the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the ballot papers for the rerun elections scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, in the Plateau North senatorial seat and Bassa/Jos North federal constituency.
As reported by Guardian, the decision has triggered strong reactions from the Intra-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Plateau, which vehemently rejected INEC’s exclusion of the opposition party.
Describing the move as unreasonable and unacceptable, IPAC questioned the fairness and impartiality of the electoral process.
The rerun elections were initially planned for six local government areas, including Bassa, Barkin-Ladi, Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, and Riyom. However, the absence of the PDP on the ballot papers raises concerns about the legitimacy and inclusivity of the electoral process.
