Senator representing Kwara North District, Lola Ashiru, has refuted claims of an agreement to zone the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Kwara North or any specific part of the state in the 2027 general election.
According to reports, he emphasized that the three zones traditionally engage in competitive processes, asserting that victory goes to whoever strategizes effectively and does his homework well.
Ashiru, an architect, spoke in his Offa country home when he hosted reporters as part of his constituency outreach initiatives.
He said: “In the history of Kwara state, the governorship ticket has never been zoned to any particular senatorial district. There has never been a time when at general elections, candidates from all parts of the state have not contested in an election.
“All the time that Kwara Central, Kwara South, and even Kwara North have contested and won gubernatorial elections in the state, there was never a time anyone sat in a corner and zoned the ticket. Rather it has always been fought for and won based on merit, reach-out, and consensus.”
The Senate Deputy Chief Whip said although he sympathised with the Kwara North Senatorial District for being disadvantaged, power is not served a la carte.
Ashiru said the ticket would not be decided out of sentiments or at the whims of a single individual.
