The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expressed shock and has rejected the rulings of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the nullification of its candidate in the March 18 gubernatorial election, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as the duly elected governor of Kano State, describing the judgement as a miscarriage of justice and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
The acting national chairman, Abba Kawu Alli, while calling on the judiciary to live up to its calling as the temple of justice and the last hope of the common man, said the NNPP believes that the Supreme Court will correct the errors of the tribunal and the Appeal Court and restore the mandate of the good people of Kano State by reaffirming Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected governor.
In the same vein, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf described the Appeal Court judgment that annulled his election as a gross injustice to Kano voters, adding that they will approach the Supreme Court for redress.
“We have instructed our lawyers to appeal this ruling to the Supreme Court where we hope it would right the wrong done to Kano people,” he said.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday affirmed the tribunal judgment which declared the All Progressive Congress candidate, Nasiru Gawuna winner of the March 18 election.
