The National Association of Nigerian Students has slammed the claim by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, saying seven out of ten Nigerian students are involved in cyber crimes.
The association, through its Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, in a statement on Wednesday condemned the claim, saying, the “baseless assertion not only tarnishes the reputation of hardworking and dedicated student community but also lacks any empirical basis.
Punch gathered that the anti-graft agency Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, in a statement on Monday, said, “It is worrisome that seven out of ten students today are involved in cyber crimes. These are the youths we are preparing to be leaders of tomorrow. The media should not relent in enlightening them on the evils of such criminal practices.”
The students union urged the anti-graft boss to provide concrete evidence supporting such a statement or retract the statement immediately.
