The Kwara State Police Command has successfully arrested three suspected armed robbers in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to a statement issued by DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the command’s spokesperson, the apprehension followed a distress call received on March 2, 2024, at approximately 06:30 a.m. reporting an armed robbery incident in the Oko-Erin area of Ilorin.
During the incident, the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed for security reasons, was accosted by three armed assailants while tending to his traps. The suspects forcibly deprived the victim of his property, including an Infinix Note 11 handset valued at N150,000.
Swift action by officers of the Kwara State Police Command resulted in the immediate arrest of the first suspect shortly after the robbery. Subsequent investigation efforts led to the identification and apprehension of two additional suspects.
Among the items recovered from the suspects was a cut-to-size single-barrel gun believed to have been utilized during the criminal operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as John Ndubusi Nbakogu, Toheeb Suleiman, and Bolakale Quadir, alias Adaka. DSP Ejire emphasized that through thorough investigation, the suspects were confirmed to be responsible for the robbery perpetrated against the complainant.
The spokesperson affirmed that the suspects would be brought before the court to face prosecution for their alleged involvement in the crime. She further urged members of the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and relevant information to aid in crime prevention and detection.
In response to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to safeguarding the safety and security of citizens.
He assured the public that the state would no longer be a haven for criminal elements, emphasizing the dedication of law enforcement authorities to uphold law and order in communities across Kwara State.
The statement reads: “As police respond swiftly; Three suspects arrested, recovers a single barrel gun and an android phone.
“On 02/03/2024 at about 0630hrs, Oko-Erin area of Ilorin, a distress call was received detailing an armed robbery incident involving the forceful dispossession of a citizen’s property. The victim, whose identity is withheld for security reasons, was attacked by three armed men while he was attending to his traps. During the ordeal, the victim was robbed of his Infinix Note 11 handset, valued at One Hundred and Fifty Thousand naira (#150,000:00K).”
“Thanks to the swift response of our diligent officers as the first suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident. Subsequently, investigation led to the identification and arrest of two other suspects. Additionally, a Cut to Size Single Barrel gun, believed to have been used during the operation, was recovered from one of the suspects.”
“The suspects have been identified as John Ndubusi Nbakogu, Toheeb Suleiman, and Bolakale Quadir, also known as Adaka. Through investigation, it was discovered that these suspects are indeed responsible for the heinous act perpetrated against the complainant.
The suspects will be arraigned in court to face prosecution for their involvement in the aforementioned offenses.”
