Kwara Pharmacists, Patients Lament Hike In Drug Prices

Following the increase in inflation, foreign exchange, and the increase in the price of petrol, Kwara pharmacists and patients have lamented the hike in the cost of drugs, saying the increase is up to fifty percent.

According to a survey conducted by the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, it was revealed that the prices of most medicines had increased by 30 percent or more in the last two months.

Speaking with Royal fm correspondent, Oluwadamilola Ayanwale, a pharmacy owner, Prince Olayode said the cost of drugs has increased tremendously as the purchasing power of people has drifted.

Meanwhile, a patient, Precious Elebiyo, stated that a Multivitamin drug she used to buy at a range of Four thousand naira is now been sold at the range of six thousand naira

Also, a patient, Grace Adeniran revealed that paracetamol previously sold for One hundred naira is now been sold for double the price.

However, pharmacists and patients have sought for government intervention, as they urged the government to get the Nigeria Refinery working back as this will reduce the cost of production as well as the cost of transportation.
