COVID-19: Commercial Motorcycle riders protest continued ban on activity

There was disruption of vehicular movement and commercial activities on Tuesday as commercial motorcycle riders trooped out En masse to protest against the Kwara state government’s continued ban on okada business activity.
The commercial motorcycle operators also clashed with the police, in protest against the clamp down on some of their members who violated the lockdown order.

The Okada riders as popularly called protested round major areas in Ilorin, to include Tanke junction, Alagbado, Sobi, Abayawo, Oloje, accusing the government and their association executive of failing in their promise to cushion the effect of the lockdown on them through various palliatives.

During the protest, two people were reportedly shot and rushed to the hospital. Police spokesman,DSP Ajayi Okasanmi told RoyalFM news he cannot confirm the shooting, but explained that police repelled an attack on B Division by a section of the riders.

Mobile policemen were seen at various junctions to maintain peace and orderliness.
