A Non-Governmental Organisation, based in Ilorin, Kwara state, Centre for Business and leadership Training, has raised alarm over the transfer of a primary school teacher for complaining about the poor state of education in the country.
In a statement issued today by its Executive Director, Mallam Musa Aliyu, the civil right organization said, Mrs Lawal Halimat, the Head Mistress of Ipata Primary School A, Ilorin, Kwara State, was transferred suddenly today, for lamenting over non-payment of salaries of local government workers in the State.
According to the NGO, the teacher’s voice was unknowingly taped by a student teacher at the school and was allegedly taking to the Mandate Office. The woman was reportedly threatened on phone and eventually transferred this morning to a Lagiki Primary School, Kwara State.
The organization described the development as shameful and an affront on the freedom of expression, despite the truthfulness in the poor condition of teachers. Aliyu called on the state government to intervene and reverse such a dishonorable act.
