Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced plans for the commencement of preliminary works on the Ilorin Smart City Satellite Town in 2023.
The project, covering an extensive area of 18,000 kilometres, is part of the administration’s efforts to expand and upgrade the capital city, following the Ilorin City Master Plan.
Speaking at the 58th Annual National Conference of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the significance of continuous infrastructural improvement, maintenance, and expansion for Ilorin, considering its strategic position in the state and central Nigeria.
The Ilorin Smart City Satellite Town is a key component of the Ilorin City Master Plan, marking a historic milestone for the socioeconomic and physical evolution of Ilorin and Kwara State.
The Governor invited the support of the community, emphasizing the potential growth, substantial real estate investments, and opportunities that the Ilorin Smart City project would bring.
He expressed gratitude to the Emir, IEDPU, and the people of Ilorin for their unwavering support and partnership in fostering inclusive growth, improving living standards, and advancing Ilorin towards becoming a mega city.
Governor AbdulRazaq acknowledged the continuous need for infrastructural upgrades in Ilorin and addressed the risk of it deteriorating into a slum if not expanded and upgraded fittingly.
He thanked the IEDPU and other stakeholders for their contributions to the Ilorin City Master Plan, revealing plans for subsequent phases for Kwara South and Kwara North.
The conference, held at the forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin’s palace, featured prominent individuals and government functionaries.
The Governor announced a personal donation of ₦25 million to support the IEDPU’s skill acquisition centre and the Central Mosque.
During the event, the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, commended the IEDPU and all sons and daughters of the Emirate for their successful hosting of the conference. He urged continued love, unity, and collaboration for the sustainable peace and progress of the Emirate.
The National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his impactful projects, especially the recently inaugurated Education Trust Fund.
