The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, has expressed concern over Nigerian youths losing job opportunities to foreign nationals in the private sector.
According to reports, this warning came during his visit to the Asaya National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Kabba, Kogi State.
Olawande emphasized the urgent need for Nigerian youths to equip themselves with marketable skills to remain competitive in the workforce. In response to this challenge, he unveiled plans to establish the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), a free platform aimed at providing valuable skills training to every willing youth in the country.
He reiterated the Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to supporting youths in acquiring skills relevant to the evolving job market.
He added, “For me, it is unacceptable for any Nigerian youth not to learn at least two skills.
“At the Ministry of Youth Development, we are encouraging every Nigerian youth to learn new skills.
“We are setting up the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), which would be a platform for every willing youth of this country to learn skills free of charge.
“We will keep doing our best to support every willing youth to acquire skills that are relevant to the needs of the global labour market.”
The “One youth, two skills” initiative was highlighted as a critical component of empowering youths for a prosperous future and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
