President Bola Tinubu has criticized the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), asserting that declaring strikes within the first nine months of an administration is unacceptable.
According to reports, he also reminded labour leaders that they are not the sole representatives of the Nigerian populace.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Lagos Red Rail Line project on Thursday, Tinubu urged labour leaders with political aspirations to wait until 2027 before engaging in electoral processes.
Addressing the NLC, he underscored the importance of respecting the freedoms and rights of Nigerians, emphasizing that initiating strikes within the first nine months of an administration is considered unacceptable.
He said, “I am standing before you clinging to that hope, assuring you that Nigeria will be out of economic problems. We just need to persevere.
“The labour union should understand that no matter how much we cling to our freedom and rights, to call forth strike between nine months of an administration is unacceptable.
“If you want to participate in the electoral process, wait until 2027. If not, maintain peace. You are not the only voice of Nigerians.”
