The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action in response to allegations of a massive contract fraud amounting to N8.06 billion within the Federal Ministry of Aviation. This move includes the freezing of an account belonging to Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, the brother of former Minister Hadi Sirika.
According to reports from The Nation, the EFCC disclosed this development following the arrest of Abubakar Sirika, who is implicated in contract fraud totaling approximately N3.2 billion through his company, Engirios Nigeria Limited.
Abubakar Sirika, who holds a Level-16 position as a deputy director in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, is listed as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Engirios Nigeria Limited and the sole signatory to the company’s accounts with two banks.
Investigations by the EFCC have revealed that four substantial contracts were awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited during Hadi Sirika’s tenure as Minister of Aviation. However, it is alleged that none of these contracts were executed despite substantial payments made to the company.
The contracts in question include the Construction of the Terminal Building in Katsina Airport (N1.3 billion), Fire Truck Maintenance and Refurbishment Centre in Katsina Airport (N3.8 billion), Procurement and installation of equipment in Aviation House, Abuja (N615 million), and Procurement of Aircraft and simulator for Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria (N2.3 billion).
