The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for three months over his allegation that the Federal Government was operating two budgets.
As reported, the suspension followed the amendment of prayers by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim to the motion raised by Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan which took Senators hours to debate.
Recall that Senator Ningi had, in an interview with the journalists on Saturday, alleged that the budget passed by the National Assembly for the 2024 fiscal year is twenty-five trillion naira while the one being implemented by the Presidency is twenty-eight point seven trillion naira.
Meanwhile, the Senate on Tuesday experienced a rowdy session after a revelation by Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe that all ranking senators got the sum of five hundred million naira.
Jarigbe, however, stated that the issue had been clarified that the missing three point seven trillion naira, as alleged by Senator Abdul Ningi had been clarified under the Government Owned Enterprises and first line charge.
He said, “I thought this issue should have ended when the chairman of Committee on Appropriation, explained that the N3.7tn were under GOEs and the first line charge.
“That explains everything but if we want to express our grouse, I also have mine and we are all culpable. After all, all the ranking senators got N500m each. I am a ranking senator and I didn’t get.”
