The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, disclosed on Wednesday that the 17 troops of the Nigerian Army killed in Delta State on March 14, 2024, have left behind a poignant legacy of grief and loss.
Addressing attendees at the burial ceremony held at the Military Cemetery, Lagbaja revealed the devastating impact on the families left behind, with 10 widows, including three pregnant women, and 21 orphaned children among the tragic aftermath.
He said, “Your Excellency, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, the Okuama killing has added to the care of the Nigerian Army and, by extension, the Nigeria state – 10 windows (three of whom are 4, 5, and 8 months pregnant), 21 orphans, and many other dependents which include parents.
it was reported that Lagbaja reassured the grieving families that the Nigerian Army and the nation as a whole stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time.
He pledged to provide support and assistance to alleviate their suffering and preserve the memory of their departed loved ones.
