Varsity Don challenges youth to turn waste to wealth
The Director, Centre for Community Development, Kwara State University, Malete, Doctor Lawal Olohungbebe, has advised Nigerian Youth to make good use of waste products by turning them to wealth.

 

Doctor Olohungbebe said this at the International Youth Day programme organized by Saliu Mustapha Foundation themed ‘Green Skills for Youth, towards a Sustainable World’, held at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School Hall, Ilorin.
He explained that burning of fossil fuels such as coal, kerosene, propane and natural gas is a contributing factor to global warming.
He therefore advised Nigerian youth to embark on activities that contribute to sustainable environmental practices and industries.
Also speaking, a Professor of Geography in the Department of Geography,  University of Ilorin, Professor Usman AbdulRaheem, identified seventeen sustainable development goals and said  humanity must work towards achieving them.
Professor AbdulRaheem also alluded to green economy system that involves in human wellbeing and social immunity.
He explained that green jobs such as agriculture, research and development could help Nigeria youth by harnessing the potentials therein.
Professor AbdulRaheem therefore advised the youth in green skills to make use of wastes and manage system like water by turning them to wealth.
In his remarks, the Director Youth of Saliu Mustapha Foundation, Comrade Yakub Ishowo, said the event was organized to educate the youth on the benefits of green economy for them to be self sufficient.
Comrade Ishowo, who was elated with the rate young ladies are participating in youth activities, charged them to be more committed to the national development.
Some of the participants appreciated Saliu Mustapha Foundation for organizing such inspiring, educational and informative event aimed at making the youth self reliant.
