The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly condemned the alleged diversion and sale of trailers loaded with federal government rice intervention, originally intended for distribution to the people of various constituencies in Kwara State.
The party expressed its dismay over the situation and demanded an explanation from the implicated legislators.
In a statement released on Sunday by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Kwara, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara (Sholyments), the party raised concerns about a viral video featuring Honorable Dekeri Anamero, a House of Representatives member representing Etsako Federal constituency of Edo State.
In the video, Hon. Anamero claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu provided each National Assembly member with at least two trailers of rice for distribution in their respective constituencies.
Reacting to the video, the PDP called on all the National Assembly members from Kwara to speak up on the whereabouts of the rice allocated for their constituencies.
The party expressed its readiness to be shocked if the insinuation that the rice was secretly sold to commercial dealers in Abuja turns out to be true.
The implicated legislators from Kwara, who are all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), include Senator Salihu Mustapha of Kwara Central, Oyelola Ashiru of Kwara South, and Senator Suleiman Sadiq Umar of Kwara North.
Members of the lower chamber include Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin, Ismail Kayode Tijani, Ahmed Yinka Aluko, Tolani Shagaya, Adam Ahmed Saba, and Mohammed Omar Bio, respectively.
The PDP, having patiently awaited responses from the implicated APC legislators, expressed concern over their continued silence.
The party emphasized that the legislators’ silence raised suspicions of compromise, suggesting that the allocated rice intended for the people of Kwara may have been diverted and sold to commercial rice dealers in Abuja for personal gain.
The party called for immediate explanations from the implicated legislators and demanded transparency in accounting for the federal government’s rice intervention.
The PDP reiterated its commitment to upholding the principles of accountability, integrity, and service to the people.
