Nigeria’s Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed deep concern over the persistently poor state of the country’s power sector, stressing that the situation has deteriorated since its privatization twelve years ago during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, voiced these sentiments during the 13th quadrennial national delegates conference of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) held in Abuja on Tuesday.
AS REPORTED BY THE NATIONS, he emphasized that despite escalating tariffs, power supply remains unreliable, adversely impacting businesses and national development.
“I was one of the persons that said privatisation was not the solution to the power crisis in the country. Twelve years later we are worse off. While tariffs are on the increase, power supply is nosediving. We need some intervention in the sector because no sector can survive in this present situation.” He said.
Ajaero called for a comprehensive policy overhaul to address the systemic challenges plaguing the power sector, arguing that it is vital for driving industrialization and overall development.
