The Nigerian Labour Congress and Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria disagreed over the management of the contributory National Housing Fund.
Mrs Timan Elayo, the Group Head of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, countered claims made by NLC President, Joe Ajaero during an investigative hearing organised by an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives.
The NLC president during the hearing claimed that administrative bottlenecks in the process of accessing the mortgage scheme had created room for corruption.
On her part, Elayo expressed that the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria had met ‘a large number’ of applications for the National Housing Fund, but was unable to meet all the requests due to funding constraints.
She further stated that a series of requests were denied access to mortgage due to the ineligibility of the applicants.
