Following an alleged mismanagement and operational discrepancies on the highly popular Abuja-Kaduna train service, the Minister of Transportation Saidu Alkali has disclosed that the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria will explain shortcomings and put up a satisfactory defense on why he should not face disciplinary actions.
It was reported that the decision to hold the NRC MD accountable was announced during the week by the Transport Minister when he embarked on an unscheduled tour of the Abuja Train Station of the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) to have a first-hand idea about what was on the ground at the train station.
The Minister of Transportation further stated that the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation is expected to appear before him today and brief him on the situation at the train station.
Alkali is also expected to ask questions on the status of all the NRC subsidiaries, especially the Nigerian Railway Corporation Property Management Services Limited (NRCPMSL), as well as recent reports of persistent train delays, safety concerns, and the generally unsatisfactory experience of passengers.
