Kwara Teenager Jumps into Domestic Well, Recovered Dead

The Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday evening recovered the lifeless body of an 18-year-old girl who jumped and drowned in a domestic well in Ile-olodo, Ita Merin-Alore, Ilorin.

This was revealed in a statement signed and released by the Service’s Media and Publicity Head, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who stated that the distress call was received around 6:46 pm and the girl named Waliyah had unfortunately drowned before the arrival of the emergency personnel.

“On the 7th of November 2023, at 18:46 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to an emergency rescue operation in the Ile-olodo Ita Merin – Alore area of Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area Kwara State,” the statement read.

“Tragically, an 18-year-old girl named Waliyah had drowned in a domestic well. The dedicated personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service successfully recovered her lifeless body and respectfully handed it over to Alhaji Adisa Akanbi Magaji of Ile Olodo, Ita-Merin, Ilorin.”

Speaking to Royal FM, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle revealed that the girl was a past victim of a mental health disorder and investigations revealed that she had gone near the well a day prior to the incident.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service Prince Falade John also stressed the importance of safety consciousness to the general public and urged parents and guardians to safeguard their children.
