Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to the welfare of the people, announcing significant measures to support citizens amidst economic challenges and infrastructure development initiatives.
During a recent cabinet meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed that the state government continues to prioritize public welfare, particularly in light of the impact of inflation on the standard of living.
He highlighted the government’s efforts to provide additional cash awards to workers and pensioners, amounting to nearly N1 billion monthly, alongside regular salary payments and pension commitments.
The Governor further stated that the government has allocated funds to support various social safety programs, including food distribution and empowerment initiatives, benefiting over 124,000 households and 368 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
In response to inflation-induced cost escalation, the state executive council approved upward revisions of contract sums for several road projects across the state. These projects include the completion of township roads in Banni, Ora, Offa, Lafiagi, and Igbaja, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and connectivity for communities.
Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the rehabilitation and upgrade of the indoor sports complex at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, a long-overdue project that will rejuvenate sporting facilities and attract national and international events to the state.
The renovation, valued at over N2 billion, aims to revitalize the facility for various indoor sports activities, including basketball, volleyball, boxing, and badminton.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the foresight of past leaders, particularly former military administrator George Innih, for their investments in infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of completing ongoing projects to maximize their benefits for the people of Kwara State.
The renovation of the indoor sports complex marks a significant step towards revitalizing sports infrastructure and promoting youth development in the state.
The Governor expressed optimism about the project’s potential to create opportunities for sports enthusiasts and attract sporting events of national and international significance.
