The Kwara State Police Command has issued a statement in response to a viral video circulating on social media platforms depicting individuals purportedly lamenting hardship and poverty in front of the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin.
The police command has clarified, contrary to the claims made in the video, there has been no such gathering in Ilorin recently, including at the Emir’s Palace.
Upon investigation, the Police determined that the video in circulation has been doctored. It emphasized the video originated from a socio-cultural event held in the forecourt of the Emir’s Palace several years ago.
In a statement by the spokesperson DSP EJIRE-ADEYEMI TOUN (anipr), the Police said the audio accompanying the video has been manipulated and does not correspond to the sentiments expressed by the individuals shown.
The Kwara State Police Command has attributed the dissemination of this altered video to mischief makers and subversive elements with malicious intent to sow discord and disrupt the peace and harmony prevalent in the state.
It urged Citizens to disregard the viral video and refrain from further spreading unverified information or content that could contribute to the propagation of fake news.
CP Victor Olaiya (psc+), the Commissioner of Police, reassured the public of the commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to collaborate with other security agencies to uphold law and order. He emphasized measures will be taken to prevent any potential disturbances while ensuring that residents continue to live in a safe and secure environment.
