The Igbo Community General Assembly, representing Igbo traders in Kwara State, has clarified that there is no ongoing dispute with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service. The union expressed gratitude to government officials for their intervention in the matter.
In a statement signed by Igwebuike Angus, the Special Assistant on Community Relations (Igbo) to the governor, the union commended the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mahe AbdulKadir, and the Senior Adviser, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, for their efforts in resolving the impasse.
The statement emphasized the commitment of Igbo traders to support the developmental initiatives of Governor Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq. It praised the government’s endeavors to transform Kwara State into a hub of commerce and industries.
Recent reports surfaced regarding the closure of Igbo-owned shops in Ilorin, alleging intimidation and over-taxation by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service. However, Angus clarified that the closure was not indicative of a rift but rather part of negotiations common in business environments.
Angus highlighted the community’s adherence to tax obligations, citing a past recognition by the Kwara State Government for their responsiveness in tax remittances. He reassured the public that the closure of shops on March 1, 2024, was not a withdrawal of services but a negotiation tactic.
