A group of approximately 30 gangsters launched a coordinated assault on the Neni Police Station and the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters in Anambra State, Nigeria. The audacious attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
It was gathered that the assailants stormed the premises while shouting slogans demanding the removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alleging his prolonged tenure of over 15 years in Anaocha. However, the motive behind their simultaneous attack on the nearby local government office remains unclear.
Amidst the chaos, reports emerged suggesting that the attackers had abducted several police operatives, including female personnel. However, Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), refuted these claims, asserting that no police personnel were taken captive during the assault.
According to Ikenga, the gangsters utilized Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the brazen attack, aiming to inflict widespread damage and instill fear.
He reiterated that the police force remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that operations in the area continue uninterrupted.
