During the ongoing trial of the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, an EFCC witness, Bamaiyi Mairiga, revealed in an FCT high court that the signatures of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, were forged.
Mairiga, a forensic document examiner with the EFCC, made this revelation while testifying before Justice Hamza Muazu. Emefiele faces an amended 20-count charge including forgery, conspiracy, and obtaining money by false pretense.
The witness explained that he was seconded to the EFCC from the Nigerian Immigration Service and conducted an analysis on signatures upon receiving a request from the forensic department.
As gathered by RoyalTimes, he elaborated on the distinct characteristics of handwriting, stating that no two writers share identical handwriting features.
Mairiga detailed the rigorous examination process involving the comparison of disputed signatures against specimen signatures. He concluded that the signatures in question displayed evidence of forgery and copy acts, citing discrepancies in pen movement, skill of execution, loop formation, and individual characteristics.
