In a solemn ceremony at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to 17 members of the Nigerian Army who lost their lives in Delta State on March 14, 2024.
It was gathered that the President posthumously bestowed national honors upon these fallen heroes and announced significant support measures for their grieving families.
During the burial ceremony, President Tinubu conferred the national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on four distinguished officers. Additionally, he honored 13 brave soldiers with the Officer of the Order of the Niger Medal.
Expressing his deepest condolences to the military, he said: “I wish to also commend our Armed Forces for their restraint in choosing not to carry out any reprisal attacks in Okuoma or its neighboring communities.
In recognition of their service and the sacrifices made, President Tinubu announced comprehensive support measures for the families left behind. The Federal Government pledged to provide housing facilities for the surviving relatives of the four officers and 13 soldiers. Additionally, scholarships up to the university level were guaranteed for all the children of the deceased.
