The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to honoring agreements reached with organized labour concerning workers’ welfare and related matters, thereby averting a potential nationwide protest.
The Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, disclosed in Abuja that the government, led by Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, convened a meeting to reassess its commitments to organized labor.
As reported by RoyalTimes, Imohiosen outlined notable progress achieved, including the disbursement of four months’ wages from the promised six-month wage award to organized labor.
Regarding the provision of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and conversion kits, Imohiosen assured that the deployment of these buses is imminent, aimed at mitigating transportation challenges encountered by citizens.
The announcement comes in the wake of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) retracting its plan for a two-day nationwide protest, indicating a de-escalation of tensions between labour unions and the government.
