The Kwara Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, has confirmed the unfortunate demise of eight individuals following a tragic road traffic crash at Oke-Onigbin along the Omuaran-Ilorin road in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.
This statement was issued on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Busari Basambo. The incident, according to the statement, involved a collision between a Mack Trailer and a Mitsubishi bus.
“A fatal road traffic crash occurred on Friday evening, at Oke Onigbin, along Omuaran-Ilorin road, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara, at 7:40 p.m.
“The accident involved a Mack Trailer and a Mitsubishi bus,” Basambo said in the statement.
Dawulung stated further that preliminary investigations revealed that the Mitsubishi space wagon, en route to Ilorin, collided with an oncoming Mack Trailer while attempting to overtake another bus.
He added that, tragically, the collision led to the immediate death of eight individuals—comprising one male adult, three female adults, and four children—while six others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Dawulung emphasized that the crash was a result of factors such as excessive speed, wrongful overtaking, and poor visibility.
